Easton's Bible Dictionary
All bible terms contained within the glossary are taken from Easton's Bible Dictionary. The book was written by Matthew George Easton (1823-1894), a Scottish Presbyterian preacher and writer and was published three years after his death in 1897 by Thomas Nelson. It contains nearly 4,000 entries relating to the Bible, from a 19th century Christian viewpoint. Despite its name, many of the entries in Easton's are encyclopedic in nature, though there are also short, dictionary-like entries.
King James Bible
The scriptural text contained within this website is taken from the Authorized King James Version. This translation was published in 1611 by the Church of England. Printed by the King's Printer, Robert Barker, this version was translated by 47 scholars, all of whom were given instructions designed to guarantee that the new version would conform to the ecclesiology and reflect the episcopal structure of the Church of England. Like most other translations of the time period, the New Testament was translated from the Textus Receptus (Received Text) series of the Greek texts. The Old Testament was translated from the Masoretic Hebrew text.
